Customer Testimonials

Hear from our many satisfied customers in Northeast Wisconsin. Learn why so many drivers trust their vehicles, tires and safety on the road with Matthews Tire.

I had a wonderful experience here! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I came in for an oil change expecting just that, but they checked over my entire car—the fluids, tires, and tire pressure were all inspected. They noticed my air filter was very old and dirty, asked if I wanted it replaced, and took care of it on the spot. They also pointed out a cracked belt and were able to replace that too. All of this was done along with the oil change! I expected a hefty bill but was pleasantly surprised to find that their prices are some of the lowest I’ve seen. I will definitely be coming back from now on!

I personally have not had great luck with mechanics. Countless times, I’ve been overcharged for poor work. I’ve been a customer with Matthews Tire for a year now—no issues. I’ve had brakes, tires, and oil changes done with them. Oil changes are cheaper than average, brakes are fairly priced, and tires were slightly more expensive than average. What I appreciate most is that they do not try to sell me repairs I don’t need.

I went to Matthews Tire after a family recommendation when my usual place couldn’t get me in for several weeks. They listened to what I needed, made a few recommendations, and gave me time to think it over. I came back a few days later, they brought in the tires from their Appleton warehouse and had me back on the road quickly. Very happy with the service and the free tire rotations. I’ll be coming here for all my oil changes and tires from now on!

We’ve had a lot of work done on both our vehicles over the past 15 years. In the last 8 months alone: tires, brakes, rotors, struts, and oil changes. Matthews Tire gets us in fast and out quickly. John is honest and professional with estimates and always gets the job done right. Tom, David, and Michael at the front desk are always friendly and accommodating when setting appointments. I highly recommend Matthews Tire.

I initially planned to just change out my tires but was so impressed with how well I was treated that I decided to add an oil change too. They already had a loaner car ready and had everything handled, including the last-minute oil change, by the time I came back to pick up my vehicle. Great service and friendly staff, would go back again!

Green Bay Synthetic Oil Change

Don’t Wait for Warning Lights. Protect Your Engine Before Engine Damage Occurs.

Going too long between changes? You’re definitely not alone. Lots of drivers delay service past the recommended interval. Life gets hectic, and the car “seems fine.” Until it doesn’t.

Over time, dirty oil can lead to hard starts, slower response and serious wear that’s easy to overlook until repairs become expensive. Keep an eye out for these symptoms:

  • Dark or dirty oil: Clean oil has a golden-amber look. As it flows through your engine, it gathers debris. If it appears dark or textured on the dipstick, you’re likely due for service.
  • Increased engine noise: A healthy engine stays relatively quiet. Hearing knocks, rattles or ticking might mean the oil is failing to lubricate and protect moving parts.
  • Excessive exhaust smoke: Some white vapor is fine, but thick or dark-colored smoke may suggest burning oil or reduced lubrication.
  • Burning oil smell: Smelling hot or burnt oil inside your vehicle or under the hood can mean there’s a leak or that your oil is overheating and breaking down.

Frequently Asked Oil Change Questions

Are synthetic oils better than conventional oil?
Yes, synthetic oils offer distinct advantages over conventional motor oils. Synthetic oils are made from more refined base oils. As a result, they deliver enhanced chemical stability and performance. They are less prone to breakdown, ensuring better long-term protection for engine components. Synthetic blend or full synthetic oils excel in extreme conditions, providing superior lubrication during high-temperature operation. Synthetic oils also help oil flow rapidly in cold starts, protecting critical engine parts more effectively than conventional oils.
How does dirty oil affect my car's engine?
Dirty oil can cause major engine damage, primarily because it loses its lubrication over time. As oil circulates through the engine, it picks up debris, dust, and metal particles, which can contaminate it. This contamination causes the oil to become thicker and abrasive. Dirty oil increases wear and tear on engine components. Over time, if not changed, dirty oil can lead to sludge buildup. Sludge can block oil passages, starving the engine of necessary lubrication and cooling. This ultimately leads to engine problems such as reduced efficiency, potential engine failure, and costly car repairs. Regular oil changes are crucial to prevent these issues and keep your engine running smoothly and efficiently.
How often should you get a synthetic oil change?
Change synthetic oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or every 6 to 12 months, whichever comes first. Driving habits, engine type, and manufacturer recommendations may adjust this range. High-performance engines or extreme conditions may require more frequent changes.
How long does an oil change take?
An oil change typically takes 20 to 45 minutes, depending on your vehicle and whether additional services like filter replacement or inspections are needed. At Matthews Tire, we don’t just swap oil. We also check belts and hoses, inspect your engine bay, top off essential fluids and adjust tire pressure as needed. It’s efficient, thorough service that protects your vehicle and keeps you safely on the road.
Can you switch from conventional to synthetic oil?
You can switch from conventional to synthetic oil at any time without harming your engine. Modern engines and synthetic oils are compatible, and no engine flush is needed. Just follow the manufacturer’s oil grade and change intervals when making the switch.
Does synthetic oil improve engine performance?
Synthetic oil improves engine performance by reducing friction, enhancing lubrication, and maintaining viscosity under extreme temperatures. It allows the engine to run smoothly, protects moving parts, and improves fuel efficiency. These benefits make synthetic oil ideal for high-performance or demanding driving conditions.
How often should you get an oil change if you mostly drive around Green Bay?
If you’re taking short trips around Green Bay, like grocery runs to Festival Foods on University Ave or school drop-offs near Preble High School, your engine might not warm up fully. That kind of driving typically means you should get an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
Is it safe to delay an oil change during Green Bay winters?
Delaying an oil change during Green Bay winters is not safe. Winters here can be brutal, and cold weather thickens your oil. If you’re running errands in January and your oil hasn’t been changed, your engine is under extra stress. Regular changes help it run smoother in freezing temperatures.
What kind of oil do you use for cars in Green Bay’s cold weather?
We recommend 5W-30 or 0W-20 full synthetic oil during Green Bay’s colder months. These options flow better at low temps, which is key when your car’s parked outside in below-zero conditions, especially near the bay where wind chills drop fast.
Is it worth getting an oil change before a road trip from Green Bay?
Definitely. If you’re getting ready for a long road trip, fresh oil helps your engine handle the miles. It’s even more important if the car’s been sitting or you’ve had a rough winter driving season.
How close are you to Green Bay neighborhoods like De Pere, Allouez or Hobart for oil changes?
We’re conveniently located in Green Bay, just minutes from De Pere, Allouez, Bellevue, Hobart and other nearby neighborhoods. Whether you’re coming from the west side near Lambeau Field and Lombardi Avenue, or the east side along Main Street or Monroe Avenue, our shop is easy to reach.
